ESSNA Code

The ESNNA Code refers to the “Code of Conduct for the Protection of the Rights of Children and Adolescents against Sexual Exploitation in Tourism and Travel” in Peru. This code is an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR) to combat sexual exploitation of minors in the context of tourism and travel.

Objectives of the ESNNA Code

The main objective of the ESNNA Code is to prevent and eradicate the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in the travel and tourism industry. This is achieved through the implementation of ethical and responsible practices by companies in the tourism sector, as well as raising awareness among tourists and workers in the sector.

ESNNA Code Commitments

Companies that adopt the ESNNA Code commit themselves to:

Awareness Raising and Training: Train their staff to identify and prevent risk situations related to the sexual exploitation of minors in tourism.
Information to Clients and Suppliers: Inform clients and suppliers about the policies and measures adopted to combat sexual exploitation of children and adolescents.
Refusal of Services: Refuse to provide services to any person involved in the sexual exploitation of minors.
Mandatory Reporting: Communicate to the competent authorities any suspicion or evidence of sexual exploitation of children and adolescents.
Collaboration with Authorities: Cooperate with local authorities in the implementation and monitoring of compliance with regulations for the protection of minors in tourism.
Adoption of Internal Measures: Implement internal policies that reinforce the protection of children’s rights within the company.
Implementation of the ESNNA Code

Tourism companies that adopt the ESNNA Code should:

Sign a formal commitment with MINCETUR.
Designate a responsible person within the company to ensure compliance with the code.
Participate in training and updating activities related to the prevention of sexual exploitation of minors.
