ITINERARY

Departure from Cusco
Begin your adventure with an early departure from Cusco in private transportation to the Ollantaytambo train station. Enjoy scenic views of the Sacred Valley, passing through quaint villages and agricultural fields.

Train to Aguas Calientes
Board the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes (approximately 1.5 hours). Upon arrival, you’ll have time to explore the picturesque town, visit its artisan market, or relax in the hot springs (optional).

Dinner and Overnight in Aguas Calientes
In the evening, enjoy dinner at your hotel or a local restaurant in Aguas Calientes, preparing for the next day’s trek. Overnight accommodation is provided in a comfortable hotel in Aguas Calientes.

Train to Km 104 and Start of the Short Inca Trail
After an early breakfast, take a short train ride to Km 104, where the trek begins. The trail, lasting approximately 6-7 hours, traverses lush vegetation, crossing bridges and passing through ancient Inca sites.

Visit Wiñay Wayna
Your first major stop is at Wiñay Wayna, an impressive Inca site featuring agricultural terraces and temples built into the mountainside. Learn about Inca farming techniques and the site’s spiritual connection to Machu Picchu.

Arrival at the Sun Gate (Inti Punku)
After exploring Wiñay Wayna, continue the trek to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), where you’ll have your first spectacular view of Machu Picchu. Arrive in the late afternoon, when the crowds have thinned, allowing for a peaceful experience.

Descent to Aguas Calientes
After taking in the views, descend to Aguas Calientes by bus to rest and spend the night at the hotel. You’ll have free time to enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Guided Tour of Machu Picchu
At sunrise, take the bus to Machu Picchu’s entrance. A guided tour (2-3 hours) will take you through the main points of interest, including the Temple of the Sun, the Main Square, and the terraces.

Free Time in Machu Picchu
After the guided tour, enjoy free time to explore further, take photos, or hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (optional, advance reservation required).

Return to Cusco
In the afternoon, descend to Aguas Calientes for lunch before taking the train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, a private transfer will return you to Cusco, arriving around 7:00-8:00 p.m.
