ITINERARY

Airport reception and hotel transfer:
Upon arrival in Cusco, you will be greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to acclimatize to the 3,400-meter altitude.

Optional activity:
If you feel well, take a light afternoon walk around the Plaza de Armas and visit landmarks like Cusco Cathedral and the Church of the Society of Jesus.

Main archaeological sites:
Explore the Temple of the Sun (Qoricancha), renowned for its flawlessly constructed Inca walls. Visit Sacsayhuamán, an impressive fortress offering panoramic views of the city, followed by tours of Q’enqo, Puca Pucara, and Tambomachay, all steeped in historical and cultural significance.

Afternoon at leisure:
Spend the afternoon visiting San Pedro Market or exploring the Inka Museum in Cusco.

Sacred Valley exploration:
Begin with a visit to Pisac’s artisan market, famous for its crafts and local products. Next, ascend to Pisac’s archaeological site to marvel at panoramic valley views and ancient agricultural terraces. End the day exploring Ollantaytambo, an Inca fortress known for its strategic design and historical battles.

Overnight in Ollantaytambo:
Stay in Ollantaytambo for easy access to the train station for the journey to Aguas Calientes.

Excursion to Moray and Maras Salt Mines:
Visit Moray, an ancient Inca agricultural research center with concentric terraces creating microclimates. Continue to the Maras Salt Mines, a stunning collection of over 3,000 salt ponds in the mountains, maintained using ancestral techniques.

Return to Cusco:
Return to Cusco in the afternoon, with the evening free to explore or rest.

Train ride to Aguas Calientes:
Depart from Ollantaytambo by train to Aguas Calientes, the charming base town for Machu Picchu. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Sacred Valley, surrounded by lush mountains.

Free afternoon in Aguas Calientes:
Explore the local market or relax in the hot springs to prepare for the next day’s adventure.

Guided visit to Machu Picchu:
Early in the morning, take a bus to the citadel of Machu Picchu. Enjoy a 2-hour guided tour of the temples, terraces, and sacred plazas while learning about the history and symbolism of this magical site. Afterward, you’ll have free time to explore at your own pace.

Return to Cusco:
In the afternoon, take the train back to Ollantaytambo, followed by private transport to Cusco.

Excursion to Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca):
Depart early for a hike to Rainbow Mountain, renowned for its vibrant, multi-colored terrain. This challenging trek offers breathtaking views of the Andean landscape.

Return to Cusco:
Return to Cusco in the afternoon for your final night in the city.

Transfer to Cusco airport:
At the scheduled time, you’ll be transferred from your hotel to the airport for your flight home. End of the tour.
