ITINERARY
Early Departure from Cusco
- Depart Cusco at 4:30 a.m. in a private tourist transport.
- The 4-hour drive offers stunning views of the Andes, passing through small communities and snow-capped mountains.
Breakfast in Layo
- Stop in the village of Layo, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Andean breakfast to fuel up for the hike.
Hike to Pallay Poncho Mountain
- Begin the hike from the starting point in Layo, following a gradually ascending trail to Pallay Poncho Mountain, situated at over 4,700 meters (15,420 feet) above sea level.
- The hike takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, offering incredible views of the vibrant, layered mountain formations created by natural minerals.
Arrival at Pallay Poncho Mountain
- At the summit, take in the panoramic views of Pallay Poncho Mountain, renowned for its colors resembling a traditional Andean poncho.
- Enjoy time to rest, take photos, and admire the Layo Lagoon visible in the distance.
Descent and Lunch
- After soaking in the scenery, descend back to the starting point.
- Return to Layo for a camp-style lunch, featuring typical regional dishes.
Return to Cusco
- After lunch, board the transport back to Cusco, arriving around 5:00 or 6:00 p.m.
